Have I got 102 stories for you…
The Empire State building towers 102 stories above the New York City skyline. This mammoth landmark encompasses 37,000,000 cubic feet of Manhattan. But if you took all the recyclables (steel, non-ferrous metals, cardboard, Styrofoam, plastic and wood) Nova processed in 2010 not even her massive volume could hold it all… you would have to book Madison Square Garden (10,800,000 cubic feet) to hold the rest of the staggering 49,000,000 cubic feet of waste we recycled.
More Than Metal

At Nova Services our appliance recycling program focuses on more than metal…much more.
Nova Services evolved out of the appliance and electronics home delivery market. Our background and heritage made us painfully aware of the burden and cost of packaging waste disposal. Our real lesson was learned when the haul-away service provider didn’t show up…The appliances stacked up fast and the bottleneck was big. After our “baptism by fire” Nova Services was created to manage the entire waste stream of home delivery and haul away operations. Total Resource Utilization SysTem= TRUST®
- Everything on a home delivery truck is loaded onto Nova’s trailer.
- No sorting
- Streamlined unloading process
- All appliances are processed to meet federal, state and local guidelines.
- Reduce or eliminate waste disposal costs.
In addition to haul-away appliances Nova can handle pallets, mattresses and electronics providing you with single source recycling solutions.

Nova Services has recycled millions of appliances. We have processed hundreds of thousands of tons of ferrous and non-ferrous metal. Recycling not only prevents materials from ending up in the landfill but saves precious resources and energy. A ton of recycled steel saves 6,000 gallons of water and enough electricity to power a 60 watt light bulb for almost 6 years.
A critical component of Nova’s TRUST® program is evacuating the refrigerant from refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers. Last year we recovered thousands of pounds CFC 12 and HFC 134a. These harmful gases have an effect up to 10,900 times that of basic carbon dioxide emissions. We have also engineered a processing plant to capture the harmful gases contained in the insulation foam and offer this RAD compliant service as an option to our customers.

Last year Nova recycled 8,534,000 pounds of corrugated packaging waste. Each ton of cardboard recycled saved 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 7000 gallons of water and 4100 kw hours of electricity.

Styrofoam does not compact well and it’s lightweight makes transportation and recycling a costly and energy wasting proposition. Because all home delivery waste stream items are loaded together Nova’s TRUST® program provides a cost effective solution for styrofoam recycling. Once hauled to a processing facility it is reduced through a thermal densifier and shipped for re-use in plastic products manufactured throughout the world.

Surprisingly wood makes up nearly 17% of landfill waste each year in the United States. Our TRUST® program allows Nova and our partners to keep tons of wood waste from clogging the waste stream and turn them into carbon neutral energy sources or mulch.

Last year U.S. companies used enough shrink wrap to cover the entire state of Texas. Plastics of all kinds- inserts, wraps etc. are captured and recycled through the TRUST® recycling program. Each ton of plastic recycled saves the equivalent of two persons electricity use for a year and 16.3 barrels of oil.
Recycling wraps and plastic bags also helps to protect wildlife- it is estimated that 1 million sea creatures are killed by eating floating plastic as they mistake it for food.
