75,000 trees saved in 2010

Last year Nova Services TRUST program recycled 8,534,000 pounds (4,267 tons) of cardboard and 2500 tonsof wood waste. Each ton of cardboard saved 17 trees from the pulp milland our wood waste shredding and recycling efforts processed the equivalent of 3,500 trees into carbon neutral boiler fuel, mulch or clean burning wood pellets.

Drink up Green Bay(population 101,000)…

...or take a shower…or cook some pasta-  Last year Nova’s recycling efforts saved 366,489,000 gallons of fresh water enough water to supply personal use for a city of 103,000 people.

• Every ton of steel made from recycled stock saves 6,000 gallons of water.
• Every Ton of plastic recycled saves 5,000 gallons of water.
• Every ton of cardboard recycled saves 7,000 gallons of water.

The Empire State building towers 102 stories above the New York City skyline. This mammoth landmark encompasses 37,000,000 cubic feet of Manhattan.

But if you took all the recyclables (steel, non-ferrous metals, cardboard, Styrofoam, plastic and wood) Nova processed in 2010 not even her massive volume could hold it all… you would have to book Madison Square Garden (10,800,000 cubic feet) to hold the rest of the staggering 49,000,000 cubic feet of waste we recycled.

A light bulb moment–

well actually 91,500,000 kilowatt hours. Using recycled commodities not only saves natural resources but also makes a huge impact on the energy used compared to manufacturing using new raw materials. Nova's contribution to
electricity savings through recycling was a shocking amount. As a matter of fact our kilowatt contribution could power Menlo Park Terrace, NJ (The home of Thomas Edison, now a part of Edison, NJ), population
7100, for five years. We think that even the Wizard thereof would think that is a bright idea.

Did you know that Styrofoam will soon contribute 25%of all material sent to landfills? Styrofoam is difficult and costly to recycle. It is a significant part of the packaging for new appliances and last year our TRUST program reduced 3,686,400 cubic feet of Styrofoam to under 500,000 cubic feet of densified polystyrene that was cost effectively shipped for re-use by plastics manufacturers throughout the world.

That is enough Styrofoam to make a full scale model of the White House and two Washington Monument.
